Week 47 (Nov. 22-28): Thankful

Image
Week 47 (Nov. 22-28): Thankful   For this theme I can’t really write about one ancestor as I can’t say that any of them have done anything that I am thankful for as such.  So this is going to be a general post. There’s many men who fought in the 1 st and 2 nd world wars and many lost their lives in doing so, of which I am thankful to them as it means I can live without all the wars. Then comes the family members who have given me information, shared certificates and photos and anything else linked to our ancestors. I’m also thankful to all the lovely people on the family history forums who take time out of their research to help with querries, research and helping other people. Many of us would still be stuck if it wasn’t for the help of others. And lastly I think thanks need to go to those who have sat and transcribed documents (this isn’t easy as I’ve done it in the past) and helped get them digitised. I know I wouldn’t be where I am today without so much be...

52 ancestors Week 15 (Apr. 12-18): Brick Wall

Image
Week 15 (Apr. 12-18): Brick Wall “Brick walls”!!! We all have them linked to our trees and ancestors, some we do manage to crumble and break down others we merely make a dent in and some seem to be that strong and stubborn that they could be around long after I am! I have a few “brick walls” that I would love nothing more than to break down, but have no idea on how or when or if it will happen. A big “brick wall” that I have been looking at for many years isn’t so much in my main tree but linked to it. I have been trying to find out if all of the Lackey Family in the UK are related to my line of them. I have 10 separate trees linked to various Lackey families across the UK. 1 tree only has 1 person in it as I can’t find definite links or records to the person. I know when and where he died and where he is buried BUT there is no gravestone as was a pauper from the workhouse. This poor man has my surname but I can’t even find if he had a wife let alone a link to me. Of the 10 tre...

How many trees to make a (Forest) Family?

Image
How many trees to make a Forest Family? So, I ask this question? How many trees does it take to make a family? Many people will probably wonder what I'm on about, think I'm mad etc as trees make forests (and paper) NOT families. This is semi true, trees also make families if you are doing a family tree! So I ask the question again - How many trees does it take to make a family? Many people would say one. In many ways I agree with this BUT in another way I totally don't agree, read on and I will explain my reason and logic for this. As it stands I currently have 15 family trees on my family tree maker. You may be think who needs that many or do I have so many etc. Let me tell you. I have my "main family tree", this doesn't get people added to it until I have a proven link that they are related to me. I have in the past added people as I found them only to find out down the line that they didn't marry my joe blogs, but joe blogs round the corner and had to ...

International scout camp help

Image
Hi all, My middle son Kenzie (15) has been selected and given a place to go on an international scout camp - European Jamboree Poland, in the summer of 2021 (it should have been this year but CV19 stopped it). In order for him to be able to attend he has got to raise just under £1500, this sounds a lot BUT the trip is 18days, this price includes travel, food, accommodation, activities, a visit to Amterdam and Warsaw as well as the actual camp. He has set up a gofundme page for donations. His 1st event to raise money is a sponsored sit in a bath of  "gelli-baff" (jelly-slime stuff, its disgusting!!!)  He is also planning to do a raffle nearer Christmas.  Anyone that donates money of sponsors him for the "gelli-baff" will receive a FREE ticket to the raffle (names will be written on the ticket in the book we have ready).                                  ...

coronavirus (covid-19, CV19) we will survive this (or die trying to....) week 15

This is soooo my house right now! DAY 99 - Tuesday 23rd June 2020 I would love to say that this is how i spent my day but no, i don't have the patience to do something like this, nor am I that bored. I haven't been well all day (or all of last night), within an hour or so of taking the meds (see yesterdays  post here ) i had major stomach cramps, was feeling and being sick, had an upset stomach and was sleeping on and off. I said it would happen. I rang the docs back and they have told me to stop taking them and have upped the dose of the ibuprofen i take as i am ok with them. I managed to get a loan to get a new Fridge-freezer and have ordered one, its a bit taller than the old one so we may struggle to get it in through the cut out of wall from house to what was the outside cupboard as there is no longer a door to the cupboard either! BUT this slightly bigger one was £30 cheaper than the smaller one - where is the logic in that??? I have no idea. It won't be here until Th...

coronavirus (covid-19, CV19) we will survive this (or die trying to....) week 14

BUT they also became extinct as couldnt wash its hands!!! DAY 92 - Tuesday 16th June 2020 This pic is quite apt for today as the boys godmother rang    me she has had enough of lockdown, trying to home school her 2 children, the youngest whose 9 is not interested in the sligthest in work and wont do anything, she was beside herself over it. I told her get her him to write down what he does daily even if only 1 sentence - like i helped with the dishwasher. He has agreed that he will write a letter to B as well. I joined in the cub scout meeting and we were making boats from scouring pads. they worked out well. i was asked about a virtual camp and would i help with it. Not done much else really. DAY 93 - Wednesday 17th June 2020 HaHaHa! this is really funny. I could see my dog doing this, and the amount of medication i have in the house a combination would be lethal! I do like the picture though. And sadly, my dragon isnt in the kitchen he's in the dining roo...

Covid-19 (Coronavirus/CV) We will survive this.....(or die trying to) (Week 1)

Thanks to my sons school putting him on self isolation, my whole house is on lock-down for the next who-knows-how-long! I shall be adding to this daily as we go (each post shall have a week on it). I have 3 children eldest J, middle K and youngest B this is how they shall be referred. There are the animals the dog, 3 cats, a kitten and a bearded dragon. I think this could make interesting reading in a book for the future generations. We shall see. DAY 1 - Tuesday 17th March 2020 Happy St Patrick's Day. The luck of the Irish certainly isn't with us at the moment. Today K's school have decided that he is to self-isolate even though he has no symptoms of CV19 but they don't want to risk having him in school. On Monday my middle son K was sent home from school with dizziness, feeling like he was going to pass out and chest pains (NOT CV related, but he has an underlying chest/heart complaint that the docs and hospital are investigating and this happens loads to h...
