Week 4 2023 - Education

Image
WEEK 4 - Education It seems that not many of my ancestors went into “ Education” as a career, nor did many have anything outstanding linked to “ education” to write about. That said I have a (very) distant ancestor who was somehow linked to Cambridge University. Charles Lancelot Booth was born 11 th June 1862 in St Pancreas, London to Samuel and Mary. He married Emily Selina Earl in July 1883 in Bromley, Kent. He died November 10 th 1926 in London. One record said that they had a daughter Emily, another said they had no children, so i’m not sure on this, but I have found a birth and a baptism which names parents. He is the husband of the niece of the husband of the aunt of the 2 nd cousin 3x removed (I said distant!) The link to Cambridge University is on an Alumni document, that mentions he has died. This means that he attended and graduated from Cambridge University. He was at Trinity Hall MICHS 1881. In what or when I have no idea. On the census records it says he has

Week 3 2023 - out of place

WEEK 3 – Out of place This puzzled me as to what I could write about. Items “ out of place” , couldn’t think of any, records “ out of place” there are probably loads, people “ out of place” again probably loads. I really was having difficulty with this theme. I went to my Ancestry tree to look at and possibly add hints (I re-started my tree due to deleting a person of big link by accident so have lots of hints.) Anyway, on the home page it said about upcoming events linked to family etc and it showed my maternal Grandad, which gave me a good idea – his niece! She ended up “ out of place” of the family during the war. Avril Doreen Haylock was the daughter of Dora Haylock and unknown father, she was born 26 th April 1931 in Eastbourne, Sussex. (confirmed by birth certificate). Sadly not much is known on Avril or her life. In 1939 she was living with her Grandparents (George and Alice – Dora’s parents) and not with her mother for whatever reason, my thoughts are because Dora was

Week 2 2023 - Favourite photo

Image
WEEK 2 – Favourite photo This gets harder every year because once you’ve used your “ favourite photo” you can’t use it again and therefore no other photo is your “ favourite photo” .  However, I have sat and gone through some of the old photos and decided to use this one of Elizabeth Ann Tanner she was the wife of my 2 nd cousin 4x removed. The look on her face says everything! She had a very hard life. If only photos could talk, but they say a picture paints a thousand words and this certainly does.   Elizabeth was born 16 March 1847 In Greenwich, London. She was the daughter of William Tanner and Elizabeth Ruzbridge. Records have been few and far between for Elizabeth, and many people have her (photos and date of birth etc) linked to various parents. I have her mother’s name from GRO index and her fathers from her death record. However, I am not 100% sure that these are correct as I can’t find a marriage that matches, and others have her father married to 3 different Elizabeth’s!

Week 1 2023 - I would like to meet....

Image
WEEK 1 – I would like to meet Over the years there has been many ancestors who have had the “ I would like to meet them ” comment linked to something I have heard, read or found online about them. However, the main 2 people (I can’t pick 1 as they were a couple) that have always had this comment are Robert Lackey and his wife Mary Jane Jackson – they were my 2 nd great grandparents on my paternal line. I have managed to find so much information linked to them over the years but never been able to find a photo. Robert and Mary are my Irish ancestors. I have Robert with his family in 1851 Ireland, this lists most of his siblings and parents on a census. His parents were James Lackey and Jane Thompson, listed siblings are William, James, George, John, Alexander, Francis and Jane. I can’t locate the 1851 census with Mary on. I have their marriage certificate of 1866 in Saintfield, and a photo of the church where they were married, and it also believed that the older 2 children who

52 ancestors in 52 weeks (2022 - fail and 2023 let's try again!)

52 ancestors in 52 weeks is exactly that, you  write or share about a different ancestor each week linked to a set theme. I successfully completed this is 2021 and thought i would do it in 2022 as well, but sadly i got week 1 done only - i have no idea as to why i didnt do it. So 2022 was a fail. However i've decided to take part in 2023 - i'm 5 weeks behind BUT i have sat and got them written out so i've sort of caught up.
