Week 25 (June 21-27): Groups – Haylock-Baulch family

Image
Week 25 (June 21-27): Groups – Haylock-Baulch family I don’t have many photos of “groups” of people except for wedding photos which are mainly of living people and as I don’t have their permission to put them all over the internet I cant use, and I used my parents wedding photo for a similar week last year., but I do have 2 lovely family “group” photos belonging to distant ancestors. The “group” photos are of family members who lived out in Australia. They were the Baulch family, linked to me via the wife who was a Haylock. Hannah Amelia Haylock is my 3 rd cousin 3x removed via my Mums side of the family. Hannah was born on 7 JAN 1868 in Oamaru, New Zealand, she was the 3 rd child of her parents (Daniel Haylock and Elizabeth Tanner) but the eldest daughter. She married George Fredrick Baulch, who was born 27th September 1866 in Tower Hill, Victoria, Australia  to parents James Baulch and Ann Hulme (I have no idea of how many siblings he had as not looked into him and hi...

Week 4 (Jan. 25-31): Favourite Photo – George Robert Haylock/Alice Adelaide Mason

Week 4 (Jan. 25-31): Favourite Photo – George Robert Haylock/Alice Adelaide Mason Due to my laptop dying last year I lost many of my photos that I had found online or been sent by other people, but I had many “proper” photos and had scanned them and added to an online family tree. Of my proper photos I think one of my “ favourite photos ” would have to be this one of George Robert Haylock and his wife Alice Adelaide Mason.  It was taken in their daughter Dora’s garden at 26 Longlands Road, Emsworth, but I have no idea of the year but would be before 1962. The photo shows them both very smartly dressed and gives me the impression that they were very proud and well to do people. It seems miles off from what George did for a living as a general labourer and jobbing gardener, of which you would expect him to be quite messy etc. I wonder if it was a wedding, christening or funeral etc, or if when he wasn’t working he did dress this way. Maybe this was Sunday best and they were g...

52 ancestors Week 23 (June 3rd -9th ): Wedding

Image
Week 23 (June 3 rd -9 th ): Wedding From Amy Johnson Crow - June is a traditional month for "weddings" , so what better time to highlight the story of an ancestor's wedding? Maybe you've found something surprising in a marriage record or you have an ancestral "wedding" photo. As I have already used my parents “ wedding ” for the “long line” theme I am going to use another Lackey ancestor for this weeks theme of “ wedding ”. The couple pictured right are James (Jim) Gardiner Lackey and Eva Margaret Morley. They married in October 1949 in Willsden Middlesex. Jim was born on 4 th April 1910 in Houghton-le-spring, Durham, UK. He was the 4 th child out of 8 of Gardiner Lackey and Margaret Ann Liddle. Eva was born 22 nd May 1920 in Kensington, UK. She was the youngest ...

It really does my head in......

It really does my head when people take screen shots of the census records and then upload them to ancestry as a family photograph. It's NOT a photo, its a document. Don't people know the difference?? I'm guessing not! I'm pretty sure i'm not the only person who finds this really annoying (or maybe I am, I don't know). It's not helpful and wastes time. Rant over.
