52 ancestors Week 23 (June 3rd -9th ): Wedding

Week 23 (June 3rd -9th ): Wedding

From Amy Johnson Crow - June is a traditional month for "weddings", so what better time to highlight the story of an ancestor's wedding? Maybe you've found something surprising in a marriage record or you have an ancestral "wedding" photo.

As I have already used my parents “wedding” for the “long line” theme I am going to use another Lackey ancestor for this weeks theme of “wedding”.

The couple pictured right are James (Jim) Gardiner Lackey and Eva Margaret Morley. They married in October 1949 in Willsden Middlesex.

Jim was born on 4th April 1910 in Houghton-le-spring, Durham, UK. He was the 4th child out of 8 of Gardiner Lackey and Margaret Ann Liddle.

Eva was born 22nd May 1920 in Kensington, UK. She was the youngest of 3 children of Walter Morley and Jessie Eliza Adams.

On the 1939 census Jim is listed as local government clerk. It has been said that he had an understanding of the Boot & Shoemaking trade that his father, older brothers and grandfather had done for a living, but he didn’t take that route as a career.

The photo left is of Jim and                                                         Eva and his parents Margaret                                                      Liddle and Gardiner Lackey. I do have some other photos from their                                                         wedding” but I don’t know who all the guests are.
