 Week 21 (May 24-30): At the Cemetery

I have to say that of all the grave photos I have linked to my tree there is only a couple that I have taken myself  “at the cemetery”. The rest have all been via a request online or are already online.


 

Robert & Mary Lackey (my 2x great grandparents) gravestone is one that I took myself as is that of Albert E Liddle (1st cousin 2x removed) and his wife Catherine.

Although I haven’t taken many of my own ancestors gravestones “at the cemetery” I have taken loads of other people’s over the years if there has been a request in my area. More recently I have been taking them in “the cemetery” at the bottom of my road. It is a huge place and is spread over 2 pieces of land with a main road in the middle. I’ve done quite  lot but there is much more to do when it’s a nice day.

Some people really don’t like being “at the cemetery” due to what they are, however, I have no issues with being there or taking photos – especially if it can help someone make a link to their family. Sometimes a grave stone photo is the only photo we may have or be able to get of an ancestor.

From AJC This may not be everyone’s take on the them but it’s mine. As I’ve already stated I now live in Cumbria, more precisely the very west coast of Cumbria (well 1mile from the coast but close enough). Week 3 – Long Line (Jan 15-21)

Is there a trait or an occupation that seems to have been in your family tree for generations? Is there a line in your genealogy that's been in a particular place for a long, long time? Maybe you have Long as a surname. Be creative! From AJC This topic has taken a bit of thinking of what to write about. My first thought was do I have anyone named “Long” in the tree that I could use (1 lady who is distant relative so not much use or info), I then thought about how “long” it has taken me to do research and such BUT that doesn’t fit with the long line theme, so thinking cap back on and I thought about the longest line of the family tree going back to whoever, but the little voice in my head says “wont most people use this?” I then thought about the Lackey family occupation as boot & shoemakers as a long line, but it wasn’t really that long, so I decide to look at photos for inspiration and that’s when it hit me – My parents wedding photo’s loads of them had a “ Long Line ” ...

  Week 39 (Sept. 23-29): Should Be a Movie From Amy Johnson-Crow - Good movies have good stories at their heart. What ancestor has a story that you think should be a movie? This hasn’t been an east theme for me, as people I thought of have been used for other things. So it has come down to someone that I think would “ make a good movie ” (and you will see why) and that is my Great Grandfather Arthur Linett/Linel/Lynes/Linneth Thompson. (his name changes per document). Arthur was born the 11 th December 1876 in South Runcton, Norfolk. He was 1 of 11 children his parents had. He was 2 nd from youngest. His parents were farmers and he kept this on during his life. In the photos I have of him, he is always well dressed and has a hat, a pipe, shirt, waistcoat and pocket watch, which don’t add to the farmer feel.
