Week 31 (July 29-Aug. 4): Large
From Amy Johnson-Crow - Large family, large business,
living large, larger than life... How
will you interpret this week's theme?
For this weeks theme of “Large” I have decided to use my
Dad, Peter William Lackey. He was born 08/08/1941 in Deeping St James, near
Peterborough. He was the only living child of Hilda Wood and William Liddle
Lackey, he had an unamed sister who died at a day old.
From a baby he was a “large” boy – (see the photo below of him at aged 18months old). This didn’t change as he got older. He was always “large” in size.
He used his size to his advantage when he worked in the foundry as he
could lift and move heavy things quite easily, it is believed he worked out with
weights as well but I don’t have proof of this.
At his “largest” he weighed in at nearly 28stone and was
wearing 4XL clothes, this was due to a disability that meant he couldn’t do
much and he just put on weight. He did eventually lose about 10stone of this in
the years before he died.
He married my Mum Barbara May Haylock on 29th August 1972 at
Peterborough Registry office and then they had the wedding reception in a room
above a pub in town centre. This was with a few hours notice as the lady whose
garden it was being held in was rushed into into hospital. They went to the
Lake District for their honeymoon and returned home over 3weeks later.
As well as him being a “large” man in size he also had a “larger” than life personality and was always laughing and joking about, and was the focus at all parties. He would laugh at everything, including his size but he was a lovely man that would do anything for anyone if he was able to
